The Family Squeeze – How to Survive and Thrive in “The Sandwich Generation”
This workshop is a series of four, 60 – 90 minute classes (depending on the Q&A and discussion time) that are held weekly, and will help those of you that are sandwiched between children at home (even if they are Boomerang Kids) and elderly parents that are requiring more and more attention. Participants will learn action steps they can begin immediately that will help them cope with the demands that are placed on Baby Boomers more every day. Because space is limited, you will need to RSVP by registering at least a week ahead of the first class. Next workshop begins on Saturday, March 5 at 1:30pm in Box Elder County (exact location will be disclosed to participants at the time of registration).
The classes run weekly, with the following topics:
Week 1 – “Life In The Middle – Setting Boundaries for Yourself,” which includes a six step plan to keep your sanity.
Week 2 – “Velcro Kids aka Boomerang Generation aka Adult Children Moving Home” – Make sure you are HELPING, not ENABLING, and what is fair to expect from them to help their Grandparents (which of course helps YOU!).
Week 3 – “Got Guilt? How to De-clutter and Interpret Your Emotions” will help you figure out where that guilt is coming from and define the jumble of emotions you are feeling for your situation and your changing relationships – because they WILL change – and how to make sure they change in a positive way.
Week 4 – “What Should We Do About Mom & Dad?” As you are handing the car keys to your teenager, do you feel like it’s time to take them away from your parents? Good luck with that! This last class will give you some concrete ways to start difficult conversations with your aging parents that range from driving issues to end of life transitions – which are never easy to think about (let alone do!). Communication with your aging parents can get tricky as they get older. Learn how to help them without making them feel threatened.

How can you help your aging parents protect themselves financially without putting your relationship in jeopardy?
Can we Talk? is a comprehensive, practical guide that guides baby boomers through the process of helping their elderly parents get their financial lives in order. Talking to your aging parents about all the financial issues that affect them is often very risky and difficult to do.
Can We Talk? gives adult children a practical and empathetic approach to working with their parents to discuss and plan for all the financial decisions they will face. The book lays out the steps to prepare and hold a family meeting to open up the lines of communication. It addresses critical areas such as proper investment strategy, legal issues that can impact the family, creating a plan to deal with the devastating costs of long-termcare, and passing on a legacy to the next generation.
